WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY AND CAN IT HELP ME?

Hypnosis is a state of altered awareness, enhanced by mental and physical relaxation. Hypnotherapy is where therapy is carried out under Hypnosis. The therapist will give positive helpful suggestions to the client while under this relaxed, enjoyable state. It is not the same as sleep as the client will be able to hear the therapist's voice at all times. Despite what you may have heard, it is not possible to make a person do anything that violates their moral code or indeed anything that they would do if they were not under Hypnosis. The client is free and able to come out of the Hypnotic state at any time. Hypnotherapy can help with most problems. Whether these are habits or thought patterns you would like to change, banish or acquire. Some physical problems can also be treated effectively by hypnotherapy.

Public Speaking, weight Loss, Smoking Cessation, Confidence & Self esteem, Exam nerves, Phobias, Anxieties & Panic attacks. But there are many many more issues that Hypnotherapy can treat.

Virtually anyone can be hypnotised - If they want to be. If you have ever driven home and realised you don't really remember much about the drive home, or been so engrossed in a book or movie that you didn't hear someone calling you, then you were in a trance. A trance is just a narrow focus of attention. We go into trances regularly, at work, while watching tv etc. Our subconscious mind is like a big hard drive which stores our memories, habits and unconscious processes like breathing and walking.

The subconscious mind is the source of many of our problems and self images. Our beliefs, habits and behaviours are stored as information and although we may consciously strive to change, we could find that "something always stops us" from being as successful as we would like. This can explain why it can be so difficult for us to make permanent changes and why Hypnotherapy can be so successful, by replacing those old negative messages with new positive ones.

The length of treatments depends on the problem or symptom and the individual's circumstances. With some people a problem like nail biting can be successfully treated in one session. Other problems such as panic attacks may take up to 3 or 4 sessions.

I will also record a cd for the client to use at home in between sessions.


I work from my own private room in central Exeter, just off the high street. Monday - Friday. Daytimes and evenings.
